Big Green gets a new tranny
Posted at 08/20/09 - 10:21 AM
The installation of a new, rebuilt, transaxle has been completed on our green Grand Caravan. Presently, the shifting is somewhat sudden and "hard". This is expected to continue for several days while the electronics adjust to new input parameters and the new hardware "wears in". Drivers are encouraged to be gentle with the accel/decel pedals at least until this break-in period has completed. (Drivers are generally encouraged to ALWAYS be gentle with the pedals, anyway.)
The broken door hinge has been repaired, though there appears to be a small issue with the latch itself. Passengers are encouraged to use only the rear passenger seats until this can be addressed.
The engine issues have been tabled pending completion of more serious repair on other vehicles. Drivers are discouraged from idling the vehicle for extended periods of time, lest we "smoke out" potential patrons.
Next project: replace transaxle, rear wheel bearings and rear brakes of brown Grand Caravan and apply lettering. Estimated date of completion: 26 August.

After weeks and weeks of technical frustration and writer's block, the web site overhaul is complete.
What's been done:
- New Look-n-Feel - A new look and easier navigation has been put in place.
- Search Engine Friendliness - The site has been made friendly to the search engines. This should help us get some web traffic and give us a little boost to our summertime charters.
- Content Management System - The site is no longer maintained by hand in a text editor. While not terribly difficult to do by hand, the webmaster wanted a way to make updates and additional content easier to manage.
There are several more pages planned. An "About Us" page is in the works with some data on us and our competitors, as well a brief history of Glacier Taxi and the Seward taxi business in general. Also an "About Seward" series of pages are planned with some history, notes on interested places to visit, hotel and restaurant reviews, and links to other businesses that have made us happy over the years. Also, watch the page for some photos and maybe video. And a small possibility exists for the addition of driver stories ranging from funny to scary.
